Hi,

today I read in a newspaper that Microsoft will remove the Compiler from Windows 8 SDK.

The article also mentions that Visual Studio 11 Express would still contain the Compiler.
But I was wondering if then SharpDevelop still could be used. I found this article:

What do you think?

Hello Joachim, we had a similar discussion last week internally.
based on this article: theregister.co.uk/2012/05/28 ... etro_only/

The SharpDevelop people seem to be confident that the compiler will still be available.

It seems Microsoft will keep the old Visual Studio Express available as well.
See this blog: neowin.net/news/microsoft-vi ... developers
which refers the original post at Microsoft, which has been changed by Microsoft to reflect that the old Visual Studio 2010 Express will still be available:

We could also use the Mono compiler, on Windows.

My other thought is: in the longterm, we need to provide a client in the browser, which allows users to use OpenPetra on any device.
Winforms is not actively developed neither by Microsoft nor Mono Xamarin anymore, so we probably should not depend on it for the next 5 years.

Thanks Timo for explaining this a bit.

Greetings,
Joachim
